Common questions from parents looking for childcare and individuals exploring becoming a licensed home daycare provider in Ontario.
The Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) program is a federal-provincial initiative that has capped daily childcare fees at a maximum of $22 per day for eligible children, effective January 1, 2025.
The Best 4 Kids Home Daycare Agency is an approved CWELCC agency. Families who enroll with one of our licensed providers pay no more than $22/day — the government funds the difference between our provider's standard rate and the $22 cap. Your savings can add up to $400 or more per month compared to unsubsidized care.
Use our savings calculator to see your exact monthly and annual savings.
Most children ages 0 to 6 years who attend a CWELCC-enrolled childcare provider in Ontario are eligible. To confirm eligibility, please call us at (416) 803-4368 — our team will walk you through the enrollment process at no charge.
We currently serve communities across Simcoe County and York Region, including:
Don't see your area? Call us — our network is growing and we may have a provider near you.
Under Ontario's Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), a licensed home daycare may care for a maximum of 6 children ages 0 to 6, including the provider's own children under 6. This small group size means your child receives much more individual attention than in a large daycare centre.
Visit our Find a Daycare page to see currently available spots. You can also submit a Spot Request Form and our team will match you with a licensed provider in your area who meets your needs (location, age group, language, dietary requirements, etc.).
Spots fill up quickly — we recommend submitting a request early even if you're not starting immediately.
Yes. All providers and adults residing in the home are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check before being licensed. Providers also maintain current First Aid and CPR certification. Our agency conducts regular visits to all provider homes to ensure ongoing compliance with Ontario's health, safety, and program standards.
Most providers in our network include healthy snacks and meals as part of the daily program. Specific offerings vary by provider — your intake meeting with the provider is the best time to discuss meal schedules, dietary restrictions, allergies, and any cultural or religious food requirements. All providers follow Ontario's nutrition guidelines.
Providers are required to give families advance notice of planned closures (vacations, holidays, training days). For unexpected illness, the provider notifies families as early as possible. Our agency works with families and providers to minimize disruption, and in some cases can suggest temporary alternative care options within our network. This is an important topic to discuss directly with your provider during enrollment.
No formal teaching degree is required. You do need to be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in Canada, have a genuine interest in early childhood care, and be willing to complete required training (First Aid/CPR and any agency-required courses). Our team guides you through everything.
The licensing timeline varies based on how quickly background checks and home inspections are completed. Our agency actively manages every step to keep the process moving as fast as possible — we guide you from your first call all the way to opening day.
There is no upfront cost to apply or go through the licensing process with our agency. We provide licensing support, compliance guidance, regular visits, and startup equipment. Call (416) 803-4368 for details on our agency model.
With a full complement of 6 children, home daycare providers in Ontario can earn a substantial income while working from home. With CWELCC enrollment, providers receive government-backed fee subsidies that help maintain steady enrollment. Exact earnings depend on your region, hours of operation, and fee structure — contact us for a realistic picture specific to your community.
Ontario allows both. A licensed home daycare operates under agency supervision and is overseen by the Ministry of Education — it can serve up to 6 children and participate in CWELCC. An unlicensed provider can care for a maximum of 5 children (including their own under 6) and cannot access CWELCC subsidies. Licensing provides credibility, oversight, and access to government programs that unlicensed care cannot offer.
While English is the primary language our agency communicates in, we welcome providers who speak other languages. In fact, bilingual and multilingual providers are in high demand — many families actively seek childcare that supports their home language. Please mention any additional languages when you apply.
Yes. Under Ontario's CCEYA, your own children under 6 years old count toward the maximum of 6 children in your care. For example, if you have 2 children under 6, you may care for up to 4 enrolled children. Your own children over 6 do not count toward the limit.
